Standard Chartered is hiring Legal Counsel with the experience of 3 to 5 Years to join their office in Mumbai.
Role and Responsibilities
- Possesses technical knowledge of the legal landscape for Retail Banking ("RB") and Consumer Private and Business Banking ("CPBB") with overarching accountability to the Head Legal - India CPBB.
- Lead and take responsibility for providing legal advice, guidance and support to business units and stakeholders on all legal matters relating to RB & CPBB.
- Maintain close relationships with stakeholders including the Regional General Counsels and RB & CPBB Business Heads to provide them with relevant legal advice, guidance and support.
- Act as the primary legal adviser to the RB & CPBB businesses and provide them with strategic and, where appropriate, proactive advice, working with external counsel, the, Group Head of Legal for Retail Banking, Head of Legal for Retail -ASA and their respective teams as appropriate.
- Implement at country level the vision, strategy, direction set by the Head - Legal, India & South Asia.
- Promote a culture and practice of compliance with legal standards (including conducting business within legal and regulatory requirements, with high ethical standards).
Eligibility
- Qualified lawyer with 5 - 10 years' experience in Banking.
- Qualified to practice as an advocate in India with minimum of 3 - 5 years in retail, consumer, private and business banking.
- Ability to provide practical solutions within the discipline of legal framework.
- Must have strategic mindset, ability to take bold decisions when required and work in a collaborative manner.
- Good interpersonal and people management skills.
- Understanding of risk management.
- Sound judgment of business practices, regulatory relationship management and reputational risk.
- Ability to work with country and group business, legal and compliance teams.
- Exemplary integrity, ethics, independence and resilience.
- Disciplined approach towards timelines.
- Completion of Group Mandatory e-learnings.
