Details of the Job/Internship

Flipkart Group is seeking a Legal Director with 13-18 years of experience to join their office in Bengaluru. 

Role and Responsibilities

IP Strategy & Portfolio Management

• Advise internal stakeholders on IP protection strategies and risk assessment (trademarks, copyrights, designs, patents, and trade secrets).
• Manage filings, prosecution, registrations, and enforcement in collaboration with business teams and external counsel.
• Drive patent strategy, open-source compliance, and IP risk management in partnership with engineering, product, and marketing teams.

Technology, Data & Privacy Compliance

• Provide legal guidance on IT, cybersecurity, data governance, data sharing, and related compliance/licensing issues.
• Support privacy policy implementation and conduct privacy impact assessments, risk mitigation, and remediation efforts.
• Monitor and advise on emerging technology regulations in AI/GenAI, Agentic AI, blockchain, encryption, and related fields.

Transactional & Strategic Support

• Review, draft, and negotiate complex technology agreements (SaaS, PaaS, on-prem software, AI/GenAI solutions, cloud services, licensing, and technology transfers).
• Support M&A and corporate development activities by conducting IP due diligence and drafting disclosures, warranties, and related agreements.

Policy, Training & Governance

• Develop and conduct training sessions on policies (Privacy, Brand Management, Data Retention, AI, etc.).
• Collaborate with Litigation & Disputes teams on IP enforcement, intermediary protections, and infringement claims.
• Partner with Government/Corporate Affairs on regulatory advocacy with government bodies and industry associations.
• Collaborate with Walmart stakeholders to uphold high standards of data, technology, and IP governance.

Leadership

• Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing legal team.
• Foster a collaborative, trusted, and growth-oriented work culture aligned with Flipkart Group values.

Eligibility

• Experience: 13–18 years post-qualification in a top-tier law firm and/or in-house legal department, with a strong focus on data, technology, and IP laws (e-commerce exposure preferred).
• Expertise:
• Advanced skills in drafting and negotiating complex technology transactions.
• Strong command of IP laws (trademarks, copyright, trade secrets; patents/designs knowledge is a plus).
• Deep understanding of global and Indian data protection regulations (DPDPA, GDPR, CCPA) and their intersection with technology.
