Details of the Job/Internship
MIT World Peace University is hiring a Legal Director with 10 to 15 years of experience in handling legal affairs for educational trusts or similar institutions to join their office in Pune. The position reports to the Registrar and is responsible for leading the legal strategy, ensuring compliance, mitigating risks, and overseeing all legal matters of the trust.
Role and Responsibilities
Strategic Responsibilities
- Advise the management on legal implications and risks related to institutional activities and decisions.
- Develop and implement a legal strategy to ensure full statutory and regulatory compliance.
- Anticipate legal issues and provide proactive solutions across departments.
Research & Development
- Monitor legal trends and emerging laws relevant to the institution.
- Analyze the implications of legislative changes and update internal processes accordingly.
Financial & Budgeting
- Propose and manage the legal department’s budget with a focus on ROI and compliance-related expenditure.
- Ensure prudent financial practices within legal operations, supporting effective corporate governance.
Collaborations & Representation
- Act as an internal advocate for legal awareness across all institutions under MIT-WPU.
- Represent the university in professional forums to enhance institutional credibility and visibility.
Operational Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all legal matters on the trust, including active and pending litigations.
- Draft and review legal petitions, applications, and correspondence for various court matters in consultation with legal advisors.
- Safeguard the university against legal threats and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Examine and validate legal documents to prevent future disputes.
- Represent the trust in courts and coordinate with legal authorities including the High Court and Supreme Court.
- Collaborate with external legal experts, regulatory offices (including the Charity Commissioner), and related stakeholders.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation and generate monthly MIS reports on legal matters.
- Manage and resolve labour law cases and other HR-related legal issues.
- Advise on legal matters related to the State University Act and its application.
- Undertake any additional legal responsibilities as required by management.
External Representation
- Represent MIT-WPU at legal, academic, and industry-related events to enhance its institutional presence.
- Stay updated on global and national best practices in legal affairs relevant to higher education institutions.
Eligibility
- Education: LLM from a reputed institution.
- Experience: 10 to 15 years of experience handling legal affairs for educational trusts or similar institutions.
- Expertise: Strong and updated knowledge of Indian legal frameworks and compliance requirements.
