Details of the Job/Internship
Wildlife Trust of India is inviting law students to join their office in Noida.
Role and Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research on existing elephant conservation laws across elephant range states.
- Review global and Indian wildlife crime cases where legal interventions have promoted human-elephant coexistence.
- Analyze and compile key legal interventions for elephant conservation into a comprehensive report.
- Identify active wildlife crime cases (related to elephants) across India for potential WTI legal interventions, in consultation with WTI’s lead legal counsel.
- Assess cases where compensation provisions can be invoked and develop case summaries accordingly.
- Liaise with relevant stakeholders to gather data on compensation mechanisms and legal responses.
- Coordinate with WTI’s Forest Counsels in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, West Bengal, and Uttarakhand to compile data on relevant cases.
- Undertake field visits, attend meetings with legal professionals and project teams to collect case-specific information.
- Contribute to the drafting of technical documents and donor reports for the project team.
Eligibility
- Law students enrolled in a 5-year integrated LL.B. program, 3-year LL.B. program, or a Master’s in Law (LL.M.).
- Must be available for a full-time, in-office internship at WTI Headquarters in Noida.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good interpersonal and team collaboration skills.
- Proactive problem-solving attitude.
- Commitment to meeting deadlines and producing quality work independently or within a team.
