Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud (born 11 November 1959) is an Indian jurist serving as the 50th and current Chief Justice of India since November 2022 and as a judge of the Supreme Court of India since May 2016. He has also previously served as the chief justice of the Allahabad High Court from 2013 to 2016 and as a judge of the Bombay High Court from 2000 to 2013. He is also a former executive chairperson (ex officio) of the National Legal Services Authority. He is the longest-serving judge in the higher judiciary of India.
The only child of India's longest-serving Chief Justice, Y. V. Chandrachud, he was educated at Delhi University and Harvard University before practising as a lawyer for Sullivan & Cromwell and in Bombay High Court.
He has been part of benches that delivered landmark judgments such as the Ram Janmabhoomi verdict, Privacy verdict, decriminalization of homosexuality and Sabarimala case. He has visited the universities of Mumbai, Oklahoma, Harvard, Yale and others as a professor.

Office of the CJI Dr. Justice DY Chandrachud invites internship applications from law students.
Important Information
- Due to the large number of applications the office receives, they are unable to inform each applicant of the status of their application. If you have not heard back from the office 6 to 7 weeks before the start of the internship slot you have applied for, your application was not accepted.
- Shortlisted candidates will be contacted via email about 6 to 8 weeks before the start of the relevant internship slot.
- The mode of the Internship will be Physical/In-Person. From internships beginning 26 June 2023 onwards, the Office will be allowing virtual applications only on a case-by-case basis in exceptional circumstances.
Write-up required for the following questions:
- Why do you wish to intern at the Office of Dr. Justice DY Chandrachud? (Please keep your answer brief)
- Does the NCLT have the discretion to reject an application for the initiation of the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process under the IBC, if both 'debt' and 'default' are found to exist? (Please answer the question in less than 400 words).

- Please share details of the tasks undertaken and your experience in any one specific internship. Along with a general overview, please also explain the legal research undertaken by you on one specific legal aspect as part of your internship. Eligibility
Students in their fourth or final year of the 5-year B.A. LL.B. program (or its equivalent) or in their second or final year of the LL.B. program are eligible to intern at the office of Dr. Justice DY Chandrachud.
Advocates who are currently practicing or have practiced before any court in India are not eligible for the internship program.
