Details of the Job/Internship
Bata India Limited is hiring a Legal Manager with 6-9 years of experience to join thir office in Mumbai.
Role and Responsibilities
Contract Management & Drafting
- Draft and review commercial contracts, lease agreements, leave and license deeds, and JRV agreements.
- Validate and vet documents such as sale deeds, gift deeds, and property title transfers to ensure Company interests are protected.
- Calculate and verify stamp duty payable on lease registrations.
Litigation & Case Management
- Manage and oversee litigation across India in coordination with corporate legal and external counsel.
- Maintain a comprehensive MIS of ongoing and potential legal cases; provide regular updates to the Head Office.
- Organize and maintain structured case files and legal documentation.
- Review due diligence reports for proposed retail store acquisitions.
Regulatory Compliance & Legal Support
- Appear before courts on behalf of the company, primarily in Bangalore or other locations in the southern region, as required.
- Draft and file police complaints, pursue FIR registrations, and liaise with law enforcement agencies.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, including:
- Shops and Establishment Acts
Labour and Employment Laws
- Other statutory and industry-specific regulations
Stakeholder Coordination
- Collaborate with cross-functional regional teams for litigation support, data collection, and case documentation.
- Share feedback and draft pleadings in collaboration with external counsel and the corporate legal team.
- Conduct legal research and assist the head office legal team with case preparation.
General Legal Advisory
- Provide proactive legal guidance to internal departments across business verticals.
- Support in handling legal escalations and risk mitigation strategies.
Eligibility
- LL.B. degree from a recognized and reputed institution.
- 6–9 years of legal experience in corporate legal departments or leading law firms.
- Strong drafting skills for various agreements, including:
- Commercial Contracts
- Lease Agreements
- Leave & License Agreements
- Joint Retail Venture (JRV) Agreements
- Ancillary legal documents: Cancellation Deeds, Attornment Deeds, Affidavits, Undertakings, Indemnity Bonds, Declarations, and Bank Guarantees.
- Sound understanding of litigation processes, particularly under:
- Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)
- Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (NSS)
- Labour Laws
- Consumer Protection
- Negotiable Instruments Act
- Intellectual Property Laws
- Legal Metrology
- Practical knowledge of court procedures and case management.
- Ability to independently coordinate with external legal counsel, government bodies, and police authorities.
- Willingness to travel or relocate across India as per business needs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in cross-functional teams.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism.
