Details of the Job/Internship
General Group of Companies is hiring a Legal Manager with 5+ years of experience to join its legal department in Surat. The role involves managing cheque return cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, handling bank mortgages, overseeing land and property sale deeds, coordinating with external lawyers, ensuring legal compliance, and advising management on legal risks and liabilities. The Legal Manager will report to the Head of Legal or General Manager.
Role and Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee all cheque return cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
- Coordinate with lawyers for preparation and filing of legal notices, complaints, and related documents.
- Track case progress, manage deadlines, and ensure timely responses.
- Represent the company in court proceedings when required.
- Handle all aspects of bank mortgages, including documentation, registration, and compliance.
- Coordinate with banks and legal counsel for mortgage-related matters.
- Manage the preparation, review, execution, and registration of land and property sale deeds.
- Coordinate with lawyers, buyers, and sellers to ensure compliance with legal and local regulatory requirements.
- Liaise with external lawyers for legal advice and representation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and legal standards.
- Maintain and update legal records, case files, contracts, and other legal documents.
- Conduct legal research and provide legal support to internal departments.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks.
- Advise management on legal matters and potential liabilities.
Eligibility
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in legal roles with exposure to corporate law, litigation, and property law.
- Strong knowledge of Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, mortgage laws, and property laws.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in legal research and drafting of legal documents.
