Details of the Job/Internship
JSW Sports is looking for a Manager – Legal to join their team in Mumbai.
Role and Responsibilities
1. Contract Management & Review:
- Team and Athlete Contracts: Oversee the drafting and review of contracts for athletes, teams, employees, consultants, and other stakeholders.
- Sponsorship & Endorsement Agreements: Draft and review contracts for sponsorship, endorsement, and partnership agreements for both the company and its athletes.
- Operational Agreements: Draft and review contracts related to day-to-day operations, including vendor contracts, media rights, licensing, and other business agreements.
- Consultant and Employee Contracts: Manage employment agreements, consultant arrangements, and other legal terms governing the relationship with internal and external personnel.
2. Dispute Resolution & Litigation:
- Resolve Legal Disputes: Manage legal disputes involving athletes, sponsors, partners, or any external third parties. Handle matters ranging from contract violations to reputational issues.
- Litigation Oversight: Oversee the company’s litigation strategy, working with external and central legal counsel when necessary. Represent the company in related legal proceedings if required.
- Arbitration and Mediation: Manage disputes through arbitration or mediation processes.
3. Compliance and Regulatory Affairs:
- Sports Industry Regulations: Ensure compliance with all applicable sports laws, league rules, and governing body regulations across all company operations.
- Legal Risk Assessment: Assess and mitigate potential legal risks related to company operations, athlete representation, and team management.
- Ethical and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the company and athletes maintain high standards of ethical conduct, including adherence to anti-doping regulations and league policies.
4. Intellectual Property and Brand Protection:
- IP Management: Oversee the protection of the company’s intellectual property, including trademarks, copyrights, and athlete image rights.
- Brand and Licensing Agreements: Manage legal aspects of brand protection, licensing, and use of trademarks, logos, and proprietary content.
- Legal Support for Marketing: Provide legal support for marketing and promotional activities, ensuring all branding and promotional materials comply with intellectual property laws and regulations.
5. Risk Management and Corporate Governance:
- Risk Management: Identify and manage legal risks across the company’s diverse operations, from athlete contracts to team operations and sponsorships.
- Corporate Governance: Provide legal advice on corporate governance matters and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards in all business areas.
- Internal Policies and Procedures: Develop and implement legal policies and best practices across the organization to minimize legal exposure and ensure compliance with industry standards.
6. Team Relations:
- Athlete Representation: Advise internal teams on the legal rights, obligations, and the best strategies for contract negotiations, endorsements, and sponsorships.
- Conflict Resolution: Serve as a mediator and provide legal guidance on resolving disputes between internal and external partners.
- Team Operations: Provide legal counsel on the governance of multiple sports teams, including player contracts, team management, and regulatory compliance.
7. Mergers, Acquisitions, and Strategic Partnerships:
- Strategic Legal Advice: Provide legal advice on mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships within the sports and entertainment sectors.
- Partnership Agreements: Draft agreements related to business ventures, including joint ventures, sponsorships, media partnerships, and investments.
Eligibility
- Education: Law degree (JD or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
- Experience: Total Experience of 6 years, and minimum of 3 years in sports law.
- Proven expertise in managing athlete contracts, team management, sponsorship agreements, and intellectual property rights within the sports industry.
- A strong understanding of the legal frameworks governing sports teams, leagues, and athletes.
