Details of the Job/Internship

The Sleep Company is hiring for the position of Legal Manager with 6+ years of experience to join their office in Mumbai. 

Role and Responsibilities

Contract Management

• Draft, review, and vet a wide range of legal documents, including:
• Leave & License Agreements
• Lease and Amenities Agreements
• Franchise, Vendor, Distributor, and Preferred Partner Agreements
• Network-related contracts (IBS, BTS, GBT, RRT, etc.)
• Supplementary, Addendum, and Amendment Agreements
• Oversee renewal of lease and license agreements for properties across malls, high streets, and commercial complexes pan-India.

Property & Compliance

• Conduct due diligence on premises for leasing or rental purposes.
• Support the Compliance Department in securing statutory licenses and permits including:
• Shop & Establishment Certificates
• Health Certificates
• Fire NOCs
• Liaise with internal departments to ensure smooth operational legal support for retail expansion and operations.

Litigation & Advisory

• Draft legal notices and respond to notices received by the company.
• Maintain and update litigation trackers.
• Coordinate with external advocates, senior counsel, and regulatory authorities.
• Provide legal support in employee-related matters including disciplinary cases and employment law issues.

Documentation & Governance

• Prepare legal SOPs, maintain document confidentiality, and manage legal data repositories.
• Ensure timely execution and record-keeping of all legal agreements.
• Prepare internal reports, statements of case, and legal documentation for regulatory or internal audits.

Government and Legal Coordination

• Interface with government authorities and state/civil administration in legal and operational matters.
• Participate in inter-departmental and external negotiations to align legal frameworks with business objectives.

Eligibility

• Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) from a reputed institution; LLM is a plus.
• 6+ years of experience in corporate legal functions, especially in real estate, retail, property leasing, and commercial contracts.
• Strong knowledge of contract law, property law, compliance requirements, and dispute resolution.
• Experience working with government bodies and managing legal risk in a corporate setting.
• Bar Council membership or equivalent professional legal qualification preferred.

Salary/Stipend
