American Express is hiring a Manager & Counsel with 8+ years of post-qualification experience to join their legal team in Gurgaon.
Role and Responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel on a wide range of issues, including banking, credit cards, merchant services, AML, data privacy, and payments.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial and business contracts.
- Advise internal teams (Compliance, Finance, Risk, etc.) on legal and regulatory implications.
- Monitor regulatory changes and advise management on strategic responses.
- Represent the company in regulatory forums and external negotiations.
- Support marketing and product teams with legal inputs.
- Manage external counsel engagements and legal budgets.
- Maintain updated knowledge of laws affecting the financial sector.
- Ensure internal policies and practices meet compliance standards.
- Contribute to legal risk mitigation and governance initiatives.
Eligibility
- Law degree from a premier institute in India.
- Minimum 8 years of post-qualification experience with a proven track record.
- Experience in both law firms and corporate legal departments preferred.
- Strong legal drafting, negotiation, and regulatory advisory skills.
- Prior exposure to corporate transactions and structuring.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
