Details of the Conference/Seminar
The global climate crisis poses one of the most significant threats to humanity and the planet today. It impacts all aspects of life, from health and security to economic and social stability. In response, the United Nations adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015, aiming to address these complex and interconnected issues. However, the climate crisis continues to exacerbate existing inequalities and presents substantial challenges to achieving the SDGs. It is crucial to examine these challenges through a human rights perspective to ensure that efforts to combat climate change and achieve sustainable development are just, equitable, and inclusive.
Further, the goal to achieve a sustainable future is largely contingent on policies on green energy, technology transfer, trade regulations, intellectual property barriers etc. Against this backdrop, it is imperative to engage the stakeholders in relevant debates and deliberations that can mark the dawn of a change in India. The Conference provides an interdisciplinary platform to revisit sustain-ability dialogues in the anthropogenic era.
The National Conference on "Sustainable Futures: Navigating Climate Crisis in the Anthropogenic Era" invites industry experts, policymakers, academicians, scholars, and students from different disciplines to explore and unravel material research questions at the intersection of climate change, human rights, and sustainable development. The conference seeks to:
- Analyze the Impact of Climate Change on Human Rights: Discuss how climate change affects fundamental human rights, including the right to life, health, water, food, and shelter, and explore legal frameworks to protect these rights.
- Evaluate the Role of SDGs in Addressing the Climate Crisis: Examine the effectiveness of SDGs in combating climate change and promoting sustainable development, with a focus on their alignment with human rights principles.
- Identify Challenges and Opportunities: Highlight the challenges in implementing climate action and achieving the SDGs, particularly in vulnerable communities, and identify opportunities for strengthening legal and policy responses.
- Promote Multidisciplinary Approaches: Encourage collaboration across disciplines to address the multifaceted nature of climate change and sustainable development, integrating perspectives from law, environmental science, economics, and social sciences.
