About HILSR, Jamia Hamdard
Established in 2018 under Jamia Hamdard, the Hamdard Institute of Legal Studies and Research (HILSR) is a distinguished institution dedicated to legal education. Approved by the Bar Council of India, HILSR provides a comprehensive range of programs, including a five-year Integrated B.A.LL.B., an LLM with specializations in Constitutional Law and Commercial Law, and a Ph.D. program in Law.
Committed to cultivating exceptional legal professionals, HILSR prepares students for diverse roles in the Bar, Bench, and legal academia. The department emphasizes a well-rounded educational experience, regularly hosting distinguished judges and lawyers to share practical insights into the legal system. This blend of theoretical knowledge and real-world exposure equips students to navigate the complexities of the legal field. With its holistic approach and dedication to excellence, HILSR has quickly become a premier institution for legal studies in the national capital, significantly contributing to the development of competent legal professionals.
About ADR Board
The commitment to Alternative Dispute Resolution on the HILSR Campus gave birth to the Alternative Dispute Resolution Board. The HILSR ADR Board was constituted as an extended arm of the Academic committee to promote interest in ADR methods given its current relevance to the legal profession. The Board was established in 2022 as an initiative to develop a culture of ADR in HILSR that enables skill development and helps us compete at the national and international levels. The Board wishes to bring a positive change in the view of society regarding disputes/disagreements not as something negative but as an opportunity. The Board was inaugurated by eminent legal personalities including Hon'ble Mr. Justice M.L. Mehta, Former judge, the High Court of Delhi & Chairman of Delhi Dispute Redressal Society (DDRS), and Mr. Tariq Khan, Esteemed Registrar of the International Arbitration & Mediation Centre (IAMC) and Ms. Iram Majid, the Executive Director of Asia Pacific Centre for Arbitration & Mediation (APCAM).
Details of the MUN/Debate/Competition
Jamia Hamdard Mediation Competition 2025 is an event dedicated to exploring and advancing the art of alternative dispute resolution in the modern world. This competition aims to bring together legal practitioners, mediation experts, scholars, students, and policymakers from diverse fields, fostering intellectual engagement and promoting excellence in mediation practices. The competition will kick off with a comprehensive orientation session, providing participants with a foundational understanding of mediation's principles and techniques. The preliminary rounds will feature simulated mediation scenarios, designed to challenge participants’ ability to craft creative and effective solutions. Themes will encompass real-world issues such as corporate conflicts, cross-border disputes, workplace disagreements, and community challenges. Each round will be judged by an eminent panel of mediators, legal professionals, and academicians who will assess participants’ problem-solving skills, communication techniques, and negotiation strategies.
As the competition progresses to the semi-final and final rounds, the complexity of the disputes will increase, pushing participants to demonstrate advanced mediation skills, adaptability, and professionalism. A dedicated panel discussion with renowned mediators and policymakers will delve into contemporary challenges in the field, including ethical considerations, confidentiality, and the evolving role of mediation in a globalized legal framework. The competition will culminate in an awards ceremony, celebrating the achievements of the most adept mediators and recognizing the contributions of all participants in advancing the field of mediation. This event aspires to not only nurture the next generation of skilled mediators but also to spark meaningful conversations and collaborations that will shape the future of alternative dispute resolution. Through this Mediation Competition, the organizers seek to cultivate a vibrant platform for learning, networking, and innovation, inspiring participants to become leaders in the evolving landscape of dispute resolution.
Eligibility
- Students pursuing their full-time 3-year LLB or 5-year LLB program from a university or Institutes recognized by the Bar Council of India, are eligible to apply.
- Subject to the discretion of organizers, only 1 Team per Institute shall be allowed to register for this Competition.

Awards
- The Team that scores the highest in the Final Round shall be declared as the Winner and shall be awarded an amount of INR 20,000, a trophy, and a certificate of merit.
- The team qualifying for the Final Round but not securing the top spot shall be declared as the 1st Runners-Up and be awarded INR 15,000, a trophy, and a certificate of merit.
- The team qualifying for the Semi-Final Round with the third-highest score, and based on 3rd highest score shall be declared as the 2nd Runners-Up and be awarded INR 10,000, a trophy, and a certificate of merit.
- The Best Mediator will be awarded a Trophy and a Certificate of Merit.
- Every Participating Team shall receive a Certificate of Participation.
