Details of the Job/Internship
The NLUD Justice for Children Litigation Fellowship, is a flagship program for young graduates committed to litigation practice on issues pertaining to POCSO and the JJ Act. Supported by UNICEF, the Fellowship aims at improving access to justice for children in need of care and protection, and children in conflict with the law through the provision of quality legal aid support to children, and the creation of a cadre of well-trained and dedicated child-sensitive lawyers. The 2025-26 cycle of the Fellowship will be based in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
Role and Responsibilities
- Attend the training and capacity building sessions organised by the Litigation Fellowship Supervisor.
- Service the cases pertaining to children in need of care and protection; and children in conflict with the law that have been assigned to them by the Litigation Fellowship Supervisor. This includes end-to-end handling of the case - meeting the child and their family, making submissions in court, arguing the case, updating the child and family, etc.
- Submit weekly case reports in the format prescribed to the Litigation Fellowship Supervisor.
- Attend the online and offline monthly review sessions with the Litigation Fellowship Supervisor.
- Submit brief notes to the Litigation Fellowship Supervisor for publication in the Quarterly newsletter under the section on ‘Notes from the Field’ which highlights the experiences, successes and challenges of the litigation fellows.
Eligibility
Qualifications: Law Graduate (LL.B. or B.A.LL.B).
Essential Requirements:
- updated knowledge of substantive and procedural child rights law, including POCSO and JJ Act;
- experience of 3+ years in child rights litigation;
- proficiency in drafting and pleading;
- proficiency in arguing cases before the child-oriented forums in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
Desirable requirements:
- an LLM or an equivalent Master’s degree in Law;
- research experience and proficiency in legal writing;
- proficiency in the use of MS Word and PowerPoint.
Salary/Stipend
INR 30,000/- monthly
