Details of the Job/Internship
Kirkland & Ellis is hiring a Paralegal Trainee to join their office in Chicago.
Role and Responsibilities
- Attends training classes and completes requirements for skills enhancement. Partakes in formal assessments and meets developmental milestones on particular skills and legal technology.
- Prepares and files (or coordinates the filing of) formation, tax, and securities documents.
- Prepares and maintains various spreadsheets and reports.
- Assists with pre-closing, closing, and post-closing activities.
- Prepares and files Form ID with the SEC and obtains SEC EDGAR codes.
- Prepares and files Form D with SEC.
- Prepares and files Blue Sky filings with state filing offices.
- Assists with preparing Form ADV and Form PF with the SEC.
- Assists with preparing Form 13F and Form 13H with the SEC.
- Assists with the production of confidential client documents in connection with SEC exams.
- Provides legal and administrative support to Paralegals and Attorneys in the Corporate Department.
- Proofread, duplicated and scanned documents to PDF and saved to DMS.
- Perform clerical tasks as needed, e.g. make copies, create folder labels, prepare packages, write generic cover memos, etc.
- Commitment to work overtime as needed, which may be heavy at times, and may include weekends or holidays with the potential to be for extended periods and on short notice.
- Coordinates with internal resources and outside vendor services on among other tasks, the preparation, production, and organization of legal documents.
- Perform manual and electronic searches using external systems and internal databases, as well as manage databases per firm standards.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective work relationships with others.
- Comply with and understand firm operations, policies, and procedures.
- Any other functions/duties as assigned by management.
Eligibility
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Fundamental proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent organizational, and planning skills; strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work well independently, as well as effectively within a team.
- Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality.
- Eagerness to learn and develop new skills, flexible.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize while working in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong technical skills are required, particularly in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and a form of Document Management System.
