Details of the Job/Internship

Aroopa is hiring a Patent Attorney Intern for its office in Chennai. The role involves supporting the IP legal team through patent research, audits, and drafting for SaaS-based innovations.

Role and Responsibilities

• Conduct patent research and analysis of SaaS-related technologies.
• Perform patentability searches and FTO (Freedom-to-Operate) analyses.
• Assist in auditing the product portfolio to identify patentable innovations.
• Collaborate with R&D, engineering, and product teams to identify patent opportunities.
• Draft technical descriptions, claims, and patent applications under attorney supervision.
• Coordinate with in-house and external counsel on patent prosecution.
• Track deadlines, maintain reports, and manage patent portfolio records.
• Assist with due diligence for IP compliance in mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships.

Eligibility

• Pursuing a J.D. with a focus in Intellectual Property or Patent Law.
• Background in engineering, computer science, or related technical field preferred.
• Coursework in patent law for software/technology is an advantage.
• Patent Bar qualification (working towards preferred, not mandatory).
• Prior experience in IP, patents, or patent prosecution (internships/coursework).
• Familiarity with patent databases (USPTO, Google Patents, Espacenet, etc.).
• Strong analytical, communication, and drafting skills.
• Organised, self-motivated, and proactive in approach.
