Project DEEP (registered as One Step Forward Foundation) is a nonprofit focused on strengthening cash-based public policies to increase per capita income of the bottom 20% in India. The organization works on evidence-based design and delivery of unconditional cash transfers (UCTs), engaging policymakers to improve the impact of INR 2,80,000 crore allocated toward such schemes. Project DEEP co-leads the India-Basic Income Coalition and collaborates with leading experts across development and policy ecosystems.
Details of the Job/Internship
Project DEEP is hiring a Policy Engagement Lead to build and lead its policy engagement vertical.
Role and Responsibilities
- Policy Leadership & Strategy:
- Lead policy engagement strategy at state and national levels.
- Identify opportunities to scale sustainable UCT models through government partnerships.
- Represent the organization in policy dialogues, consultations, and working groups.
- Program Design & Implementation:
- Design and execute policy programs, including public finance design and evaluation.
- Ensure program alignment with poverty eradication through cash-based interventions.
- Integrate research insights into advocacy materials and policy briefs.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships:
- Build relationships with government officials, multilateral institutions, development agencies, and civil society organizations.
- Develop strategic alliances to expand policy influence.
- Facilitate cross-learning platforms between practitioners and policymakers.
- Organisation Building & Thought Leadership:
- Build and mentor state-level teams.
- Contribute to external publications and policy forums.
- Advocate for innovation in social protection systems using global best practices.
Eligibility
- 8–10 years of progressive experience in public policy, international development, public administration, or social protection.
- Strong experience in designing and managing policy programs with measurable outcomes.
- Deep understanding of India’s socio-economic and political landscape.
- Experience working with government systems is highly desirable.
- Master’s degree in Public Policy, Economics, Development Studies, Political Science, or related field.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
