Details of the Job/Internship

Surana & Surana International Attorneys India is hiring for the position of Principal Associate - IPR (Patents) with 5-7 years of experience to join their office in Chennai. 

Role and Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive prior art searches and provide strategic IP opinions, including patentability, freedom to operate (FTO), and invalidity assessments.
• Devise customized patent and design protection strategies for a diverse portfolio of clients.
• Draft and prosecute patent and design applications in India and internationally.
• Handle office actions (FERs/SERs), represent clients during IPO hearings, and coordinate with global legal counsel for foreign filings.
• Manage pre- and post-grant oppositions, submit evidence, and support maintenance of strong, enforceable IP portfolios.

Eligibility

• Registered Indian Patent Agent with 5–7 years of post-qualification experience (PQE).
• In-depth knowledge of Indian and international IP laws, including WIPO, USPTO, and other major jurisdictions.
• Hands-on experience with IP filing systems, patent databases, and IP docketing or management tools.
• Exceptional skills in legal drafting, technical analysis, and client communication.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronics & Communication Engineering.
• Law degree (LL.B.) preferred.
• Prior experience in a reputed law firm or in-house IP team is essential.

Salary/Stipend
