Details of the Job/Internship
Air India is hiring a Principal Counsel with 12+ years of PQE to lead its aircraft acquisition and financing initiatives in Gurugram.
Role and Responsibilities
- Support complex multi-jurisdictional aircraft and engine transactions, including leasing, financing, and sale-leasebacks.
- Draft and negotiate purchase agreements, facility agreements, aircraft mortgages, and security agreements.
- Formulate strategic legal positions for aircraft deliveries, redelivery negotiations, and maintenance reserve disputes.
- Ensure regulatory compliance across jurisdictions, addressing FEMA, RBI, DGCA, and OFAC sanctions.
- Manage debt or equity offerings and complex finance arrangements for aircraft purchases.
- Collaborate with engineering, finance, and operational teams to align legal transactions with fleet business objectives.
- Develop compliance frameworks for External Commercial Borrowings (ECB) and cross-border SPVs.
- Oversee contract lifecycles and technical acceptance protocols to mitigate long-term operational risks.
Eligibility
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized university; familiarity with English Law is a plus.
- Minimum of 12+ years of Post-Qualification Experience (PQE) with a focus on asset financing or aviation.
- Demonstrable expertise in aircraft leasing, acquisition transactions, and commercial law.
- Proven track record of independently handling complex negotiations under stringent delivery timelines.
- Understanding of technical aviation terms, maintenance economics, and engine performance metrics.
- Knowledge of Indian aviation regulations and international financing structures (SLB, EETCs, JOLCOs).
- Exceptional analytical, writing, and communication skills.
