Details of the Job/Internship

Curriculum Associates is hiring a Privacy & Data Protection Counsel with five years of experience in global data protection and privacy to join their hybrid office in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. 

Role and Responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal guidance on privacy and data protection issues, with an emphasis on U.S. student data privacy laws.
• Support the development and implementation of the company's global data protection and privacy program.
• Partner with stakeholders to provide subject matter expertise, advice, and training.
• Monitor compliance with data protection and privacy policies.
• Assist with data governance and compliance efforts, including Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and Data Sharing Agreements (DSAs).
• Advise on AI governance and compliance efforts.
• Counsel on appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect personal data.
• Support customer conversations and assist with vendor contract diligence.
• Assist with other compliance and legal functions as needed.

Eligibility

•  Juris Doctor or an LL.B. from an accredited law school.
• Must be a member of the bar in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction or be enrolled with a State Bar Council under the Bar Council of India.
• Minimum of five years of global data protection and privacy experience in a law firm or in-house position, with familiarity in advising on student data and EdTech matters.
• Comprehensive knowledge of global privacy laws such as FERPA, COPPA, and GDPR; expertise in advising on complex matters; ability to work collaboratively, translate legal advice into actionable guidance, and demonstrate superior research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to maintain utmost confidentiality and take independent action while balancing team and individual responsibilities.
