CIMMYT is hiring a Regional Legal Counsel with experience of 8+ years to join their office in Delhi.
Role and Responsibilities
- Execute end-to-end Contract Life Cycle Management, including drafting and negotiating grants, research collaborations, and procurement contracts.
- Provide practical legal advice across multiple jurisdictions on corporate, labor, tax, administrative, and criminal matters.
- Support the Compliance Officer by managing regional case entries, tracking, and timely closure of misconduct reports.
- Act as the legal focal point between regional departments (Research, Finance, HR) and Headquarters to ensure policy consistency.
- Research and analyze treaties, laws, and regulations applicable to the region to ensure institutional compliance.
- Monitor legal and regulatory requirements concerning data privacy, research ethics, phytosanitary standards, and environmental regulations.
- Identify and assess legal risks associated with CIMMYT’s operations and develop effective mitigation strategies.
- Manage corporate governance functions, including powers of attorney and statutory minutes.
- Prepare educational and training materials on legal policies and contract tools for non-legal stakeholders.
- Represent the Legal Department and CIMMYT before various external forums and judicial bodies.
Eligibility
- Education: Master’s degree or LL.M.
- Experience: At least 8 years of progressively responsible experience as an in-house legal counsel.
- Proven track record in multijurisdictional or regional operations; experience with international non-profits or research organizations is a plus.
- Language: Proficiency in English (C2 level) and Spanish is required.
- Strong knowledge of regional legal frameworks and the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and legal ticketing/dashboard systems.
- Applicants must have the legal right to work in India (locally recruited role).
