Details of the Job/Internship
V-Key - Stronger with V-OS is hiring a Regional Legal Counsel with experience of 5 to 10 years to join their office in Chennai.
Role and Responsibilities
- Responsible for drafting, reviewing and negotiating on all contracts such as NDAs, partnership agreements, MSAs, RFPs, SOWs, consultancy agreements, source-code escrow, service level agreements, etc.
- Draft and review employment contracts, policies, and employee stock options, manage employee disputes and litigation and provide guidance on HR matters, such as hiring, termination, and benefits.
- Working with key internal stakeholders in the review of products and related data collection to ensure compliance with GDPR and applicable local data privacy laws, and where necessary, complete and advise on privacy impact assessments.
- Develop and implement data protection policies and procedures and educate employees on data protection best practices.
- Manage IP portfolios and registration processes.
- Provide timely legal advice to internal teams on legal matters/concerns such as renewals/extensions, requirements, liquidated damages, debt recovery etc.
- Liaise and coordinate with external company secretaries, solicitors, and other third-party advisors where legal involvement is required, including matters related to legal & financial audit, SOC 2, and regulatory compliance for all entities.
- Provide support in the event of any disputes or potential disputes and litigation matters.
- Implement, manage and automate legal technology solutions and develop processes to enhance workflow.
- Apply effective risk management techniques and offer proactive advice on possible legal issues and provide proactive guidance on best practices, processes, templates, clauses and playbooks.
- Train and mentor employees under supervision, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary knowledge to effectively support legal processes and mitigate legal risks.
- Oversee the legal department’s budget and spending.
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the reporting manager.
Eligibility
- Bachelor’s degree in law and admitted to practise in Indian Bar.
- Between 5-10 years of experience in corporate and commercial law (private practice and/or in-house) with knowledge of intellectual property and data privacy laws. Prior in-house experience and certifications like CIPP/A, CIPP/E are preferred.
- Comfortable working with laws in regions outside of India, particularly in the APAC region.
- A strong self-starter who can work independently in a dynamic, fast moving, and growing environment, while also being a collaborative team player.
- Excellent negotiating and drafting skills.
- Strong ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships across the business.
- Excellent English communication skills are required.
- Ability to communicate complex legal issues and risks to non-legal colleagues in a clear and understandable manner.
- Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
