Details of the Job/Internship

Aditya Birla Capital is hiring a Regional Legal Manager for its Chennai office to lead the non-litigation and retail lending legal vertical.

Role and Responsibilities

• Lead the legal assessment and approval process for all retail and construction finance (CF) lending proposals.
• Conduct and drive the Legal Due Diligence (LDD) process in coordination with empanelled external lawyers.
• Draft and vet complex transaction-specific covenants, retail legal agreements, and security documents.
• Perform detailed analysis of title risks, possession issues, and security creation failures to prevent non-recoverability of loans.
• Formulate and update product policies, procedures, and legal/collateral acceptance norms.
• Negotiate contracts and undertakings with vendors, lenders, co-lenders, and other financial institutions.
• Monitor portfolio health by detecting early warning signals of deteriorating risks and advising senior management.
• Manage Turnaround Times (TATs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for panel advocates and title opinion reports.
• Collaborate with credit and pricing committees to finalize approval processes after risk validation.
• Provide strategic guidance on exceptional events, conflict management, and complex legal situations.

Eligibility

• Qualified Lawyer (LL.B.) with significant experience in non-litigation legal roles within the BFSI sector.
• Strong expertise in Retail Lending, Property Law, and Title Scrutiny.
• Proven track record in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and financial documentation.
• Proficiency in handling Construction Finance (CF) and Approved Project Finance (APF) vetting.
• Deep understanding of the current regulatory and compliance environment in the Indian lending space.
• Excellent analytical skills for portfolio monitoring and risk assessment.
• Strong interpersonal skills to manage diverse stakeholders and drive a risk-aware culture.
