The Square Circle Clinic is a criminal justice initiative under NALSAR University of Law. It works across New Delhi, Pune, Nagpur, and Hyderabad, undertaking research and providing pro bono criminal defence for death-row prisoners and undertrial prisoners. The team specialises in forensics, criminalisation, punishment, legal aid, and issues relating to mental health and criminal justice. The Clinic’s staff previously worked under Project 39A before moving to NALSAR in 2025.
Details of the Job/Internship
The Square Circle Clinic is hiring a Research Associate with 0–2 years of experience to join their office in New Delhi.
Role and Responsibilities
- Contribute to the implementation of the Clinic’s research agenda.
- Conduct data collection and fieldwork.
- Analyse and synthesise research findings for publication.
- Publish in peer-reviewed journals and contribute to research briefs, reports, and white papers.
- Prepare short commentaries for mainstream media and relevant platforms.
- Build collaborations with central and state criminal justice agencies.
- Represent the Clinic at national and international forums.
- Support institutional strategy, administration, and project development.
Eligibility
- Undergraduate degree in law is mandatory.
- LL.M. preferred.
- Familiarity with criminal law and the Indian criminal justice system preferred.
- Two years of work experience preferred.
- Proficiency in English and at least one Indian language is desirable.
Salary/Stipend
Rs. 65,000 – Rs. 80,000 per month.
