Aptean is hiring for the position of Senior Legal Counsel with 8-14 years of experience to join their office in Bengaluru.
Role and Responsibilities
Privacy & Data Protection:
- Ensure compliance with global privacy laws, including data mapping, retention, DPIAs, SCCs, and international transfers.
- Draft and negotiate privacy clauses in contracts with customers, vendors, and partners.
- Embed privacy-by-design principles in product development and business operations.
- Monitor regional regulatory developments (especially APAC), providing legal updates and internal training.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for privacy-related concerns.
- Manage and respond to data subject rights requests.
- Provide legal support for marketing and third-party data sharing activities.
- Assist in identifying and resolving data incidents involving personal information.
Employment Law & HR Compliance:
- Advise HR on internal employment policies and regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions, particularly India, China, and Australia.
- Support negotiation and review of vendor and contractor agreements.
- Collaborate with HR and vendor management teams to ensure adherence to local employment laws and Aptean policies.
Eligibility
- Qualified lawyer with a law degree from an Indian jurisdiction.
- 8–14 years of post-qualification experience, with at least 5 years in privacy and employment law within an in-house environment.
- Strong understanding of privacy laws and employment regulations in the US, EMEA, and APAC regions.
- Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/A) or equivalent preferred.
- Experience drafting and negotiating employment, contractor, and privacy agreements.
- Familiarity with working alongside Information Security teams to implement data protection controls in a tech/software company environment.
