Details of the Job/Internship
HSBC is hiring a Senior Legal Counsel with experience of 10 years to join their office in Bengaluru.
Role and Responsibilities
- Act as subject matter expert for all employee relations / employment law-related aspects for HR Business Partners, HR Advisors, and Business Managers; providing advisory on a variety of labor and employment matters including key transformation / change initiatives / restructuring / redundancies / offshoring utilizing appropriate approach/methodology to identify associated risks with actions/decisions.
- Effectively engage and manage relationships with legal counsels; work on litigation strategy concerning employment disputes; ownership & accountability for outcomes and the execution of strategies including coordination with lawyers, drafting, review, and approval of submissions before Courts and various authorities, appearance before statutory authorities and courts (with or without external counsels).
- Provide legal advice, guidance and support to the Group ER and HR departments within India and the GSCs, as well as end-user clients, working as part of the Employment, Benefits, and Incentives Legal team to ensure that the Group’s exposure to legal risk is managed.
- Coordinate advice for GSCs in other locations globally and liaise with local ER and HR departments.
- Assist the Regional Employment Law team (based in Hong Kong) in coordinating advice regionally as required.
- Be a trusted adviser to the Bank by ensuring that commercially sensitive, pragmatic, and practical legal support and advice is provided cost-effectively.
- Help manage external legal spending and support/drive productive, efficient, and focused relationships with external providers.
- Develop and maintain positive and professional working relationships with all team members within Legal and colleagues in the business lines and functions, especially in ER and HR; and
- Ensure key stakeholders are fully briefed on major issues arising in relevant business areas and major legislative changes impacting HSBC from a legal risk/litigation risk standpoint.
Eligibility
- Qualified Indian lawyer with a minimum of 10 years of law firm or in-house post-qualification experience, focused on employment law.
- Working knowledge of employment and labor laws in India: multinational experience preferred but not essential.
- Ability to synthesize advice from multiple sources/jurisdictions, to identify and advocate for a unified and actionable way forward.
- Experience in advising HR and/or a business on all aspects of the employment relationship.
- Very strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong lateral thinking/problem-solving ability with a forward-leaning proactive approach.
