Details of the Job/Internship
HSBC is hiring a Senior Legal Counsel with a minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience to join their office in Bengaluru.
Role and Responsibilities
- Act as subject matter expert for all employee relations and employment law aspects for HR Business Partners, HR Advisors, and Business Managers.
- Provide advisory on a variety of labour and employment matters, including key transformation/change initiatives, restructuring, redundancies, and offshoring.
- Engage and manage relationships with legal counsels and work on litigation strategy for employment disputes.
- Ownership and accountability for execution of strategies, including coordination with lawyers, drafting, review and approval of submissions before courts and authorities, and appearances before statutory authorities and courts.
- Provide legal advice, guidance, and support to Group ER and HR departments within India and the GSCs.
- Coordinate advice for GSCs in other locations globally and liaise with local ER and HR departments.
- Assist the Regional Employment Law team based in Hong Kong in coordinating advice regionally.
- Proactively identify and manage current and forward-looking employment legal risks across various HSBC Lines of Business and/or Functions.
- Help manage external legal spend and support efficient relationships with external providers.
- Develop and maintain professional working relationships with team members within Legal and colleagues in business lines and functions, especially in ER and HR.
Eligibility
- Qualified India lawyer with a minimum of 10 years of law firm or in-house post-qualification experience, focused on employment law.
- Working knowledge of employment and labour laws in India; multinational experience preferred but not essential.
- Ability to synthesise advice from multiple sources/jurisdictions to identify and advocate for a unified and actionable way forward.
- Experience in advising HR and/or a business on all aspects of the employment relationship.
- Very strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong lateral thinking and problem-solving ability with a proactive approach.
