Details of the Job/Internship
New Relic is seeking a highly motivated lawyer who is able to act as a trusted legal advisor for product and engineering teams.
Role and Responsibilities
- Providing legal and privacy guidance to product and engineering during the entire software development lifecycle, including new product development, new feature launches, and integration of third-party services.
- Working with cross-functional teams on engineering initiatives, security initiatives, and compliance initiatives, such as collaborating on new policies and procedures.
- Analysis of open source issues and support of open source compliance programs.
- Assisting with inbound and outbound agreements in the area of product, IP, and privacy.
- Assisting in other areas of legal as needed.
Eligibility
- Have a Bachelor of Laws including a license to practice law in India.
- Have a minimum of 3 years of relevant product and privacy counseling and transactional experience (a mix of in-house and law firm experience strongly preferred)
- Have the flexibility to work at times needed to support New Relic’s global operations, which can include nights and weekends from time to time.
- Have a foundational understanding of how software runs on hardware and is willing to learn how engineering teams build their tech stack in order to understand the legal issues that can arise and help ideate possible solutions.
- Has an understanding of data, such as data flows, data types, data schemas, and personal data.
- Have a knowledge of GDPR (and CIPP/E certification) and have a working knowledge of global privacy laws.
- Have a growth mindset to go deeper in various areas such as change design documents, architecture diagrams, vendor documentation, technical white papers, and the like.
- Enjoy working with others, whether within the security, legal, and compliance team to draft new policies and procedures; or with teams in peopleops, finance, marketing, product, engineering, and design.
- Is able to aggregate large volumes of information from multiple channels of communication, distill the issue, and present the issue for decision-making.
- Excellent written and oral communication ability, willing to proactively engage a diverse cross functional team, and succinctly articulate requirements.
