Details of the Job/Internship
PETA India is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel in Delhi, India, with 3 years of experience to work with them.
Role and Responsibilities
- Attend meetings with external counsels, brief them on cases, and align them with PETA India’s objectives.
- Review pleadings, orders, and case documents, draft event chronologies, and prepare briefing notes.
- Draft police complaints, legal notices, court pleadings, and agreements with thorough research and legal reasoning.
- Attend hearings in Supreme Court, High Courts, and trial courts, assisting arguing counsels as required.
- Draft and review in-house agreements, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide legal guidance.
- Conduct legal research, propose recommendations, and contribute to litigation strategies.
- Stay updated on legal developments, amendments, and case laws, applying them to cases and campaigns.
- Maintain organized records of legal correspondence, court documents, and case files.
- Provide legal support to campaigners, researchers, and investigators, contributing strategic inputs.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Eligibility
- Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB) from a university recognized by the Bar Council of India.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a practicing lawyer or in-house counsel, with a preference for litigation experience.
- Litigation experience in High Courts (writ jurisdiction) with strong knowledge of constitutional and criminal law.
- Experience in drafting agreements, employment contracts, and regulatory compliance.
- Familiarity with the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, RBI guidelines, and Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
- Knowledge of animal rights law, constitutional law, or related fields is preferred.
- Excellent legal research, drafting, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
- Fluency in English (spoken & written); proficiency in Hindi and other regional languages is a plus.
- Willingness to travel extensively for litigation.
