As a not-for-profit organization engaged in empowering Indian citizens about their digital freedom and rights, it operates as a collective bringing together different stakeholders to further the cause of digital rights. 

Details of the Job/Internship

Software Freedom Law Center, India (SFLC.in) is hiring a Senior Legal Counsel with experience of 4+ years to join their office in Delhi.

Role and Responsibilities

• Conduct in-depth research on laws and policies in technology law, human rights law, and IPR laws.
• Draft court submissions, petitions, replies, applications, legal notices, and other legal documents.
• Provide well-informed organizational viewpoints on legal matters.
• Contribute to monthly publications on the SFLC.in website, including articles, opinion pieces, and other literature.
• Stay updated on developments in privacy, data protection, free speech, net neutrality, and other relevant areas.
• Analyze and communicate legal perspectives on emerging issues.
• Conduct research and case studies on laws related to Information Technology, Data Privacy, and Intellectual Property Rights.
• Collaborate with the team to develop insightful analyses on legal trends and implications.
• Collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to further the organization’s mission.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to junior members of the legal team.

Eligibility

• Law degree from a recognized institution.
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in technology law, human rights law, or intellectual property law.
• Familiarity with the legal system and experience in appearing before various courts and tribunals.
• Excellent academic credentials and research skills.
• Familiarity with the Open Source Ecosystem.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Hindi.

Salary/Stipend
