Details of the Job/Internship
Zapp is hiring for the position of Senior Legal Counsel with 7+ years of experience to join their office in Akuhaito, Nagaland.
Role and Responsibilities
Strategic Legal Business Partner
- Advise the Founder, C-suite, and leadership on a broad range of legal issues, including commercial, IP, regulatory, employment, privacy, corporate governance, and M&A.
- Lead the execution of all legal matters with a proactive, business-first mindset.
- Anticipate legal risks and opportunities, proposing innovative, risk-adjusted solutions.
- Distil complex legal concepts into actionable guidance for cross-functional teams.
- Build and scale a lean, high-performing in-house legal function over time.
Commercial & Corporate Advisory
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts (e.g., suppliers, brand partnerships, logistics, sponsorships, technology).
- Support on corporate governance, shareholder relations, fundraising, and board matters.
- Provide counsel on structuring and compliance for both day-to-day operations and strategic transactions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Product, Marketing, Operations, and Finance to embed legal considerations from the outset of strategic initiatives.
- Ensure company-wide compliance with UK regulatory regimes, including:
- E-commerce and consumer protection laws
- Advertising standards and food safety regulations
- UK GDPR and other data privacy laws
Operational Excellence & Legal Infrastructure
- Design and implement scalable legal processes, contract templates, and self-service tools.
- Develop internal policies, compliance frameworks, and employee training programs.
- Enhance legal efficiency while ensuring risk is managed effectively.
Board, Investor & External Relations
- Prepare legal updates and documentation for board meetings and investor communications.
- Manage relationships with external counsel to ensure effective, cost-efficient legal support.
- Oversee engagement with external company secretary and related governance providers.
Eligibility
- Qualified UK Solicitor with 7+ years PQE.
- Training at a top-tier law firm and significant in-house experience, ideally in a high-growth, VC-backed business.
- Broad-based legal expertise with deep understanding of commercial, corporate, and regulatory law.
- Industry experience in consumer tech, e-commerce, retail, logistics, or other regulated sectors is highly desirable.
