Details of the Job/Internship

Diageo India is hiring a Senior Manager – Legal Counsel & Business Partner with 10+ years post-qualification experience to join their team in Bengaluru. 

Role and Responsibilities

• Act as primary counsel to Commercial and CR teams on legal and regulatory risk mitigation.
• Coach teams on contracts, third-party engagement, and government or NGO interactions.
• Ensure transaction risk is mitigated contractually and residual risks are understood.
• Minimise legal risks related to anti-bribery, corruption, and anti-trust compliance.
• Provide pragmatic legal advice to support sustainable business performance.
• Manage legal aspects of projects as Legal Project Manager, including documentation and implementation.
• Develop frameworks, processes, checklists, and training for legislative compliance.
• Support identification and interpretation of applicable laws, regulations, and crisis management initiatives.
• Coordinate operational legal matters across states and manage legal budgets effectively.
• Raise capabilities within teams through training on contracting, negotiation, and compliance.
• Provide strategic advice on legal and regulatory issues including excise laws, anti-trust, data privacy, corporate and contract law, customs, foreign investment, labour/employment, M&A, and product liability.
• Coordinate with external counsel for litigation, government representations, and dispute resolution.
• Liaise with government offices and authorities for legal clarifications, advice, and documentation.

Eligibility

• Post-graduate degree in Law.
• 10+ years post-qualification experience in India or other common law jurisdictions.
• Experience in beverage alcohol, FMCG, or pharma preferred.
• Strong knowledge of India’s legal system, excise legislation, and international anti-bribery laws.
• Proven experience in business partnering with senior executives and influencing stakeholders.
