The Legal Department of the New Development Bank (NDB), reporting directly to the President, plays a central role in ensuring legal soundness and institutional compliance. The Department provides comprehensive legal services to the Bank’s governance bodies, senior management, and all operational units. Its work includes drafting, reviewing, and negotiating legal agreements; advising on institutional policies and frameworks; and representing the Bank in legal proceedings.
Details of the Job/Internship
New Development Bank (NDB) is hiring for the position of Senior Professional, Legal with 7 years of experience to join their office remotely.
Role and Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on a wide range of matters related to the Bank’s Articles of Agreement, internal policies, procedures, and governance frameworks.
- Address legal issues concerning corporate procurement, privileges and immunities, membership matters, leases and real estate, and operations at NDB headquarters and regional offices.
- Advise on institutional, administrative, and corporate legal matters, including personnel issues, staff grievances, disciplinary investigations, and legal aspects of human resources, IT, intellectual property, data protection, and governance.
- Ensure legal compliance across the Bank’s internal processes by staying current with internal regulations and evolving international legal practices.
- Identify, assess, and advise on legal risks related to institutional operations, and contribute to the development of strategies to mitigate them.
- Conduct due diligence and prepare legal documents, reports, and supporting materials for national and international litigation, arbitration, or other proceedings.
- Draft, review, and analyze complex legal documents, including legal opinions, resolutions, memoranda, and contracts, ensuring legal sufficiency and consistency.
- Assist with the assessment and interpretation of legal issues arising in various cases and provide informed legal analysis.
- Perform other legal duties as assigned by the Director General or Chief, Institutional.
Eligibility
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional legal experience; prior work experience in a multilateral development bank or international organization is highly desirable.
- Admission to practice law in at least one of NDB’s member countries.
- Strong expertise in public international law, institutional law, contract law, and international civil service law.
- Proven track record of advising senior leadership on legal and compliance matters within international institutions.
- Exceptional skills in legal drafting, documentation, and analytical evaluation.
- Bachelor’s and Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Law from a reputable institution.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken); knowledge of another language from a Bank member country is an asset.
