Details of the Job/Internship

Cleveland County is hiring a Staff Attorney for its Department of Social Services, with prior legal experience in juvenile, adult welfare, and child support matters. 

Role and Responsibilities

• Handle courtroom and administrative litigation for juvenile, child support, and adult welfare matters.
• Prepare legal documents including petitions, motions, court orders, and appeals.
• Provide legal training and guidance to department staff.
• Advise the DSS Advisory Board and collaborate on policy development.
• Represent the department in court and liaise with external legal partners.
• Supervise paralegal(s) and participate in team management.
• Maintain legal documentation and ensure statutory compliance.
• Participate in emergency response activities if mandated under State Emergency protocols.

Eligibility

• Graduation from a recognized law school.
• Licensed to practice law in North Carolina.
• Thorough knowledge of North Carolina General Statutes and governmental legal frameworks.
• Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
• Strong communication, drafting, and legal reasoning skills.

Salary/Stipend

$84,786 – $110,222 per annum
