Centre for Trade and Investment Law was constituted by the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India in 2016 to provide analysis of legal issues pertaining to international trade and investment law.
Details of the Job/Internship
The Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL) intends to engage Five (5) lawyers at the levels of Young Professional, Associate, and Research Associate, to work on trade-related issues across multilateral agreements and bilateral agreements (including Trade in Goods; Trade in Services; Trade and Sustainable Development; Intellectual Property Rights, Geographical Indications, innovation, and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises; Trade Remedies and Dispute Settlement; Regulatory Practices, Competition, Government Procurement, Anti-Corruption, Transparency, etc.; Rules of Origin, Trade Facilitation, and Non-Tariff measures; Investment Protection; and Agriculture).
Centre for Trade and Investment Law is looking for highly motivated, qualified lawyers, to join immediately, on a contractual basis, for the following role:
1. Young Professional
The candidate must meet the eligibility criteria. Based on the requirements of the Department of Commerce, selected candidates may be deputed to the Trade Policy Wing, Trade Negotiations - Multilateral, and Trade Negotiations – Bilateral Wing in the Department of Commerce.
Eligibility
Candidates must be Indian nationals and should preferably hold a master’s degree in law, except for those candidates applying for the position of Research Associate. 1 Candidate must have excellent legal professional skills, with a demonstrated interest and/or experience in international law, international trade law, investment law, and related fields listed in details of job column. Candidate must also have strong written and spoken communication, and presentation skills in English. Candidate must be able to provide sound and rigorous legal analysis, and must also have strong research, drafting and legal analytical skills, specifically in the fields listed above.
Candidate should also satisfy the specific eligibility criteria listed below, in addition to the above. PQE listed below refers to Post Qualification Experience, i.e., work experience that has been obtained following the candidate’s successful completion of a degree in law. In other words, time spent while pursuing post-graduation will not count towards PQE. Experience includes up to three years for Ph.D. holder, provided that no work experience is counted during those three years. Experience in international negotiations, dispute settlement processes, and any of the listed areas in details of job column is desirable.
- Must not be more than 35 years of age at the time of recruitment.
- Must hold a master’s degree in areas such as economics, law, international law, public policy, data science, cost accounting or a related discipline. Consistently good academic record with at least 55% (or an equivalent grade on a point
- scale wherever the grading system is followed) at bachelor's and master's levels.
- Must have a minimum of 1-year post-qualification experience.
- Relevant work experience or research and studies produced in international trade, economics, economic diplomacy, international law, investment, public policy, or a related discipline is desirable.
