At LawSikho, we have been helping hundreds of Indian lawyers to learn international legal work and serve individual clients and companies in the UK, US, Canada, Dubai, Singapore and other markets.
The UK has emerged as a top destination for Indian legal talent, whether they want to work remotely from India or want to migrate to a more developed economy.
At LawSikho, we help you learn relevant skills to get jobs in the UK. We also help with track record building, gaining work experience, doing outreach exercises to develop your professional network, and finally landing jobs and clients.
Perhaps most importantly, LawSikho helps lawyers from India who want to qualify as a solicitor in England and Wales by preparing them for the Solicitors’ Qualifying Exam (SQE).
Having said that, here are five LawSikho learners who got remote jobs in the UK:
Sneha Solanki (LawSikho, 2021), a 2021 law graduate from Dehradun, lives in Ballabgarh near Faridabad. She has recently secured a remote job as Editor-in-Chief for Legamart, a UK-based journal for lawyers. She earns around USD 500 per month working remotely on a part-time basis, and has simultaneously worked on nearly 35 projects for international clients in other countries, earning over USD 3000 from Upwork as well. She also helps law firms write blogs and publish content.
Since March 2023, Shreya Jain, a 2016 law graduate from Indore, has been working remotely as Data Privacy Manager for a UK-based company that offers data protection, privacy management and information security services to global clients from her home in Akola, Maharashtra. Initially a litigator, Shreya needed to take a break when she got married, and courts stopped functioning properly as the pandemic hit. After a two-year gap, she has now begun working remotely with the assistance of LawSikho.
Not only does she have an INR 14 lakh per annum package, but working from home for international clients allows her to manage her personal commitments as well, which would have been difficult had she not been employed remotely or was still litigating in court.
Arjun Mohandas went to a local government law college in Thrissur, from which he knew he would receive no placement assistance, so he joined LawSikho in 2020. He is currently working remotely with a boutique consulting firm in the UK as Data Protection Manager, and earns INR 16 lakh per year, with just 2.5 years of experience following his graduation.
BTW, law students can also work for UK clients as remote paralegals. Here is an example of a LawSikho student who has been working remotely for a UK and US client:
Muhammad Aslah (LawSikho July 2021), an LLB from School of Legal Studies, Dr Janaki Ammal Campus, Kannur University, has worked a part-time remote job with Spider Savvy, a web design and online marketing company in Kentucky, and as a paralegal at Veneziano and Partners, an international consulting boutique specialised in the UK, again remotely.
The bottomline
Of course, the best way to get jobs in the UK is to prepare for the SQE and clear it.
The good news is that post-September 2021, you do not need to pursue an LLM in the UK to attempt this exam. Earlier, people had to first do an expensive LLM in the UK or look for bridge courses, which is now unnecessary.
After successfully clearing this exam, you can practise as a solicitor in England and Wales.
It also paves the way for full-time in-person or remote jobs in the UK, and other countries such as Dubai, Singapore and Australia as well, because your qualifications and credentials are internationally recognised.
