Here’s how these CA/CS professionals began earning in dollars

In his book Actual Minds, Possible Worlds, legendary American psychologist Jerome Bruner, who became internationally known for his contributions to educational psychology, wrote that people are 22 times more likely to remember a fact when it is presented as a story.

So allow me to tell you a few stories. Especially because this could be your story too.

If they can, so can you

Suman Bahrunani, an India-qualified CS who was one of our students, completed her CS course in 2014, and went on to earn over USD 5,000 as a freelancer. Post-pandemic, she began working remotely on several drafting-related projects. So convinced was she of the potential of remote work that she launched a remote work platform in UAE called WorkBoxHub, and has been hiring freelancers from LawSikho to help her.

Seema Devi R, a corporate secretary of Indian origin, was working as a compliance officer in Mauritius, but wanted to start her own firm, so she quit her job in 2021. To increase her exposure to international work and learn about foreign legal systems, she decided to pursue a course with LawSikho.

While on the course, Seema applied for an assignment for a rights issue project with LawSikho’s Upwork Agency, but LawSikho co-founder Komal Shah, a CS with nearly 15 years’ experience in India and abroad, identified Seema as suitable for more advanced work, so Komal told her about an opportunity with a Switzerland-based healthtech company.

Note that Seema’s goal at this point was to earn roughly USD 1,900 per month, but she was interested in more high-value work, not just compliance. In January 2022, Seema landed the Switzerland job.

Guess how much she is being paid?

USD 3,000 per month.

She is executive assistant to the CEO, and works on high-level strategy, business development, partner relationships, contract drafting, and taxation.

Then you have CA Mehul Mehta, who has 20+ years of experience in the Engineering, Procurement, & Construction (EPC), energy, infrastructure and solar sectors. Among his former employers are Deloitte and a Shapoorji Pallonji Group entity, where he was commercial head for Australia, Africa, Jordan and Europe.

So he was a very successful professional when he joined our Master Access programme, which is invite-only and our most expensive VIP programme.

Why was he joining? Because he wanted to start an independent consultancy practice in May 2020, and used Master Access as a library to prepare for client meetings and negotiations. He wanted practical learning, the certificate was not important.

In July 2021, he decided to join a big company again and is now Director, Commercial and Compliance Function, at Knight Frank. He seems fairly settled in his job for now, but still uses Master Access as he did when he was running his consultancy.

Why?

Because CA, CMA and CS professionals operate in the knowledge industry. Even if you are not practicing independently, the relevant knowledge helps in negotiations, dealing with the board, the management, and other stakeholders. You have an upper hand if you stay updated.

And the more you know about international laws and regulations, the better your chances of finding high-end clients who will help you further your career as an independent compliance professional.

Create your own story

Just because you are a qualified, or about-to-qualify, or almost-qualified CA or CS doesn’t mean you have to spend your whole life struggling to find a decent job or assignments that pay enough to justify the long, hard hours you put into your education.

Simply invest some time and effort to acquire the skills needed to work as a remote paralegal, and watch your career take off. Why paralegal? Because paralegal opportunities are not limited to lawyers/ law students – any CA or CS can pursue them.

CA and CS professionals who wish to explore high-paying areas of work, acquire foreign clients, contribute to the growth of an international startup, or tap into new opportunities created by the pandemic and the digital economy, simply by becoming a remote freelancer, are all welcome to our bootcamp.

Reading your textbooks and bare acts will not teach you how to manage the corporate governance of a large private company or how to take a company public through an IPO. Or how to negotiate state and federal business registrations, DBA (doing business as) filings, and employer identification numbers (EIN) in the US. Or how to draft ESOP plans and agreements.

But we will, and this is merely the tip of the iceberg.

Here is what you have to do. Join our Diploma in US Corporate Law for Company Secretaries and Chartered Accountants.
