We are going to share the success stories of our learners who have actually migrated to Canada following their stints with us.
Success stories like:
Chaitali Bagai (LawSikho, March 2021), a 2021 graduate of Jyoti Vidyapeeth Women’s University Jaipur, started doing remote freelance work for international clients, earned more than USD 700 on Upwork alone, and shifted to Canada. She currently works with CT Bakery in Toronto, the HQ of the company which runs Bread Talks.
Navjot Singh, a 2017 LLB from Punjab University, cleared the Delhi Judiciary Prelims but couldn’t clear the Mains and wanted to get started on an international freelance career.
Having joined our diploma course on international remote work, he started freelancing through the online job platform Fiverr in 2021, and was earning USD 25-50 per project, for about 20-25 projects. He worked mainly on DMCA, trademark, and contract drafting.
- He had clients in the US (sellers on Amazon) and other clients, including YouTubers, in the UK and New Zealand
- He then moved to working directly with clients through LinkedIn.
- To get law firm experience, he joined SonisVision law firm as a legal business development manager, did seminars with IIM Calcutta and many incubators, and also worked with Vindhyas and Associates, Pratik Harsh. He used to do business development as well with IP work, in which capacity he worked with Nawazuddin Siddiqui and many other Bollywood stars.
In India, he was able to earn around a modest INR 50,000 per month. But he used the work to build his track record, get testimonials, and get a job in Canada in January 2023.
He is now in Canada on a one-year permit, working 40 hours per week with a business consulting firm in Toronto, and is expecting to receive his Permanent Residency soon. At present, he earns CAD 16 per hour, which will be reviewed after three months. He also earns a bonus of around CAD 3000 (INR 1.80 lakh approx), and lives independently. You can see him on the company website here.
His track record and previous testimonials have helped him land his current job. As an IP expert, he vets business plans, prepares IP strategies for startups, and does due diligence on business innovation for international clients who want to set up their business in Canada through the startup visa programme.
He has also initiated the process of becoming a lawyer in Canada by clearing all NCA exams.
Shashwat Jindal (LawSikho, May 2021), is a 2018 LLB graduate of OP Jindal Global University and with his own law firm, who started working on Upwork with help from our team. In just 1.5 years, he worked on 23 projects (1,390 hours), and earned more than USD 23,000 (nearly INR 19 lakh). He then got work from four US law firms and a Canadian law firm, and a monthly retainer from five international startups.
His goal was to work with Canadian firms, and our team guided him on how he could focus on Canada and start writing about its laws for the purpose of outreach. He followed our suggestions diligently, and was successful in securing several opportunities. You can learn more from a video that he shares here.
This is Navkaran Singh, who practises in the district courts in Patiala. He graduated in 2015, and has also worked as a digital media executive for the Punjab government and as a team leader for a national political party.
Now, he wants to move to Canada. He obtained a Permanent Residency for Canada in 2019, but could not visit owing to travel restrictions during the pandemic. In 2022, he attempted the NCA exam, but could not clear it. He then enrolled in LawSikho’s NCA course in May 2022.
After studying the syllabus, he attempted the professional ethics paper which proved relatively easy, since he was prepared.
He has also started work on freelance projects that were provided by the LawSikho team directly – these were non-legal projects around transcription, translation, etc. He has also built his Upwork and Fiverr profiles.
Such work is also very helpful in building a track record, while you learn highly valuable practical skills or prepare for your foreign bar exam.
