30 Indian lawyers who moved to Canada in last 12 months

There was an Indian litigator who joined LawSikho courses in 2021.

She was working under a senior in Chandigarh for the past 4 years.

At that time, we had recently started our remote work courses.

She was highly ambitious. Her goal was to start earning 3x more without sacrificing a decade working under her seniors.

After joining us, she started applying the techniques we taught to pitch to international clients.

It took her 3 months to get her first client. This was a small project on Upwork from a foreign client.

It still took a while to get a consistent influx of assignments. She continued to pitch despite facing a lot of initial rejections.

Things exploded after 6 months. She secured repeat work from her initial client, a couple of referrals, and several new clients.

A foreign law firm offered a remote job as a paralegal, paying USD 1500 per month.

A client in the Middle East gave her a 7k dollar project.

She had learned more skills and built a track record, and could deliver those services.

By now, she was getting remote work from clients in Canada and several advanced economies.

Then, she got engaged.

Her husband had a job offer in Canada.

She wanted to shift, and she did not want to sacrifice her career.

Of course, she could continue remote work from Canada, but could she get a full-time job there as a Canadian lawyer?

We recommended that she attempt the NCA Exam.

She started studying for the exam, 2 hours per day.

She cleared 4 NCA subjects in the next 6 months. A couple of subjects are left.

She started applying for full-time positions in Canada for a legal assistant.

She landed a few interviews.

She secured a job in a large MNC in Canada that pays her approx. 65k Canadian dollars per annum, a month before she shifted to Canada.

She had an advantage over other international and Indian applicants as she had cleared several NCA Exams already.

In January this year, she shifted to Montreal with her husband.

That person is Yashika Malhotra.

As we speak, history is being made for Indian lawyers who aspire to have international legal careers and practice in Canada.

There is a huge opportunity, as Canada is welcoming immigrants, and there has been an 80% reduction in Indian immigrants last year.

This means that there is very low competition for those who want to move to Canada, provided you have the right strategy.

It only takes about 1 – 1.5 years to plan out this move from scratch.
