Preparation strategies for the Rajasthan Judiciary Preliminary Examination

Having the right approach and structured strategies is the most crucial aspect of preparing for the Rajasthan Judiciary Preliminary Examination. Some of the strategies are as follows:-

  1. Familiarise yourself with the exam syllabus and pattern

Rajasthan Judiciary Preliminary Exam syllabus and pattern are quite vast, therefore, a candidate should have a thorough understanding of the exam syllabus and pattern. Read the syllabus carefully and familiarise yourself with the names of all the Acts. There are 20 subjects that you have to prepare for the Rajasthan Judiciary Prelims Exam; therefore, learn the name of every Act by heart.

Similarly, get yourself familiarised with the exam pattern and structure. Though the exam contains 100 questions and 120 minutes, you shall prepare in such a manner that, after giving a considerable amount of time to prepare for the exam, you are able to solve 120 questions in 120 minutes with utmost accuracy.

  1. Test your current knowledge – Solve Previous Year Questions

Initiate your preparations by testing yourself. Before hopping on to actual preparations, solve prelims exam question papers for the years 2017, 2019 and 2021. Solve these papers with utmost honesty, keeping in mind that you are taking an actual exam.

Retract yourself from the world, set a timer for 120 minutes, take a pen and paper and start solving the question papers. Dedicate an entire day to solve and analyse the past 3 years’ question papers.

In morningSolve Rajasthan judiciary prelims paper of 2017 and analyse it thoroughly.
In afternoonSolve Rajasthan judiciary prelims paper of 2019 and analyse it thoroughly.
In eveningSolve Rajasthan judiciary prelims paper of 2021 and analyse it thoroughly.

Solving and not analysing question papers is a blunder because analysing them is even more important than merely solving them. You need to make two bifurcations while analysing your paper. Make a list of the topics and/ or subjects that you have a good command on. Make another list of the topics and/or subjects that are your weak areas. Now, you clearly know the areas in which you need to spend less time and the topics for which you need to spare an ample amount of time.

This bifurcation will test your waters and help in shaping your preparations in an effective manner because you shall study smart and not just hard. Solving past year question papers will also help determine whether you are able to complete the paper in the given time span or not. By solving and analysing past year question papers, you will have a clear understanding of your strong and weak areas. Therefore, this exercise will boost up your confidence and give you a head start on your preparations.

  1. Carve out a study plan

A candidate should carve out a well-structured study plan for himself. The study plan should be personalised, practical and easy for you to follow. It is not important to study for 16-17 hours daily; however, studying sincerely for 8-9 hours is sufficient for clearing this exam. While making your own study plan, give sufficient time for revision because “Revision is the key to your success.” While making your time table, do not imitate others and make your own personalised study plan that you can follow in the longer run.

Do not be hard on yourself if you are unable to stick to your plan for 1 or 2 days. Cover that gap in the upcoming days. Be honest with yourself and follow the schedule with utmost dedication. An ideal time for preparing for the Rajasthan Judicial Preliminary Examination is 6 months- 5 months of preparing topics and the last 1 month to revise and attempt mock papers and MCQs as much as possible.

To save your time, I have provided a sample 6- month time table. You can refer to it and make your own personalised plan. This 6- month plan has been divided into-

  1. Get yourself thorough with the Bare Acts

Bare Acts are your Bible and you should know them by heart. In your preparations, make Bare Acts your foundation, on which you shall build your castle of knowledge. In case of any dispute between Bare Acts and reference books, then Bare Acts shall always prevail.

You are expected to go through each Bare Act at least 5 times before your Rajasthan Judiciary Prelims exam. Do not forget to make your own short notes while studying Bare Acts. These short notes will immensely help you in your last-minute preparations.

  1. Every topic is important

Rajasthan Judiciary Prelims Exam follows a rigorous approach, therefore, do not leave any topic for this exam. According to the above-mentioned bifurcation of number of questions, at least 1 question has been asked from every Act, be it a major or a minor legislation. Make it a rule not to skip any topic and go through the entire syllabus without any exception.

  1. Have group discussions

Participating in group discussions is a positive step, as it can broaden your horizons. While having group discussions, many times you tend to learn new aspects of a subject that could help you in your Prelims exam. Group discussion makes your preparations fun and creates a healthy competition amongst group members, which would enhance your preparation.

Look for a bunch of people who are also dedicatedly preparing for the judiciary prelims exam (irrespective of any State) and try to have a sincere group discussion every 20 days. Do not waste your time finding people. Everyone will start coming your way once you start preparing with utmost sincerity and honesty. Believe me, having group discussions is worth giving a try.

  1. Keep making short notes simultaneously

While reading Bare Acts or studying from any reference book, do not forget to make your own notes. These short notes will help you immensely in your last month as well as last minute preparations because then you do not have time to go through the Bare Acts and other books. These notes shall be short, crisp and made in such a manner that you can understand them without opening any Bare Act or reference book.

HOW TO MAKE SHORT NOTES
In first 3 months of preparationsAs of now, you are studying from Bare Acts and reference books. So, while studying, keep noting down important points of every subject and/or topic in short.
In next 2 months of preparationsIn these months, you should be studying Bare Acts and your short notes. So, while studying, try to make notes in the shortest possible manner. The notes for all 18 subjects shall be so short that it could be summarised in less than a notebook of 50 pages.
In the last monthKeep revising from your short notes only.

Since you solely rely on your short notes in the last and most crucial month, it is supremely important to make short notes extremely seriously and dedicatedly. The notes should be colourful as our brain seems to retain colour more easily and quickly. For example,

HOW TO MAKE COLOURFUL SHORT NOTES
DESCRIPTIONCOLOUR
Section name and numberBlack colour
Description and important facts of that particular sectionBlue colour
Name and year of the Case LawRed colour
Ratio of that particular case lawGreen colour
  1. Every subject is equally important

The entire syllabus of Rajasthan Judiciary Prelims Exam can be categorised into 3 parts:-

                    Major Acts                      Minor Acts                   Language

6.The Indian Contract Act, 1872

8.The Limitation Act, 1963

MINOR ACTS
S.NO.Name of the Act

8.The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015
9.The Rajasthan Rent Control Act, 2001
10.Interpretation of Statues

Do not under-estimate any subject or category because all the subjects are equally important. Some subjects have more weightage and some have less, however you are advised to prepare all the subjects sincerely. Do not make the mistake of not preparing for the language section, because without preparing for it, you cannot pass the Prelims exam.

If you plan to leave any subject for now and plan to do it later, then believe me, you will not get any time to prepare for that subject and/or topic. Therefore, it is best to be diligent and complete all the subjects as per schedule. Follow the above-mentioned study plan/ time table and prepare every subject in that manner.

Time management for the Rajasthan Judiciary Preliminary Examination

Importance of time management

Time management is the most precious skill to be mastered by every candidate. For acing this exam, an aspirant must know, plan and manage their time in the most effective manner. Since the Rajasthan Judiciary Prelims exam consists of a vast syllabus, it is important to bifurcate your time in such a manner that you get  ample time:-

  • to solve previous year question papers.
  • learn and study new concepts.
  • to make short notes on every topic.
  • to revise each and every topic.
  • to solve MCQs as much as possible.
  • to solve sectional mock test papers.
  • to solve full mock test papers.
  • to do self- revision.
  • to relax for sometime.

If you aim for success, be sure not to skip any of the above- mentioned points as they will be beneficial in preparing you to attain the highest success rate.

Techniques for managing time effectively

  • Manage your time schedule according to the nature of your sleep cycle. For example,
  • If you are an early bird, then:-
  • Start your preparations early in the morning.
  • Start with the trickiest topic in the morning because you will have the highest level of concentration at that time.
  • In the afternoon, take some time to relax and then go prepare for the easiest topics.
  • In the evening, take up a moderate topic and prepare it.
  • Remember to sleep early so that you can wake up early the next morning.
  • If you are a night owl, then:-
  • Start your preparations in the evening so that you can study till late in the night.
  • Start with the trickiest topic in the evening, as the energy and concentration levels would be at their peak at that time.
  • Take some time to relax and proceed further with the easiest topic.
  • Thereafter, take up a moderate level topic and prepare it.
  • Prepare your study plan in the manner that suits you the best.

Do not forget to spare some time for physical activity because “a healthy mind resides in a healthy body.” You would be more focussed and enthusiastic if you exercise everyday. Make a detailed study plan incorporating topics of one assigned subject.

Prepare a weekly plan, note down the topics you will be preparing for each day, stick to the plan and try to finish that topic on the assigned day itself. Prepare new topics for 6 days of the week and have 1 day for revision. For your reference, I have made a sample study plan. So, if you are a drop-out, then you should follow the above-mentioned plan with all your heart.

If you are a college student or a working professional, then also, you can follow the above-mentioned study plan and mould it according to your convenience. Remember to work even harder if you are a college student or a working professional. Though it would be hard, it is not impossible.

First and foremost tip is to relax on the day of examination; do not panic; just be calm and relaxed. Have a good night’s sleep before the exam day and get up in the morning with a positive attitude and firm belief in yourself and your hard work of the past several months. Before leaving for the exam, collect all the required documents and other essentials like:-

  • Admit Card
  • Aadhaar Card
  • Passport size photographs
  • 2 blue Ball Pens
  • Water bottle
  • Face Mask
  • Positive attitude
  • Enthusiasm
  • Firm belief in yourself

Reach your examination centre at least 30 minutes before time to avoid last minute hassles. Avoid talking to anyone at the exam centre and just be calm and focussed.

Follow these tips during the exam

Do not be under- pressure or over- confident during your prelims exam. Upon getting the question booklet, read and follow all the instructions very carefully. Allocate your time wisely to each question. Attempt questions from the area you are more comfortable in but ensure to save sufficient time for other questions as well.

Set a time limit for answering every question and honestly follow the time limit. Do not spend more than 1 minute on 1 question. If you do not know the answer, skip it, move onto the next question and come back to the skipped question if you have time. Keep a continuous eye on the clock and adjust your pace accordingly. To save more time, you should use elimination method to answer questions.

Keep marking OMR sheet simultaneously. Keep marking your OMRs as soon as you have solved 10 questions. Leaving OMR for marking it later is a bad idea because many times, either you do not have enough time to mark it or you end up marking it in the wrong manner. If you have time, carefully review your answers and then mark the OMR sheet. Your aim should be to answer the maximum number of questions in time and with utmost accuracy and to fill the OMR sheet very carefully.

Follow these tips to avoid stress during the exam

To avoid unnecessary stress and panic, start answering questions you are confident about. If you do not know an answer, do not become stressed out. Stress will do no good and will make your situation even worse. Remember, you do not need to score 100 out of 100 marks. If you answer 5-10 questions wrong, even then you will beat the cut-off and qualify for the mains examination.

Since, there is no negative marking in Rajasthan Judiciary prelims exam, answering some questions wrong will not affect you in any manner. Focus on answering 80-85 questions with utmost accuracy. Just believe in yourself, be calm and confident and keep moving forward with every question and you will definitely ace the exam.

Common mistakes to avoid for the Rajasthan Judiciary Preliminary Examination

Time mismanagement

The biggest blunder committed by most aspirants is not to manage time and keep on procrastinating. Aspirants think that they have ample time to prepare for the exam and leave their preparations for the last 1-2 months. If you are doing the same, you have already lost the battle. You shall aim to clear all the three stages of the Rajasthan Judicial Exam and not just the Prelims stage. Therefore, shape your preparations in a manner that you are preparing for the Mains exam and Interview and not just for Prelims exam.

Carving out a personalised time schedule is a sine qua non of your preparations. Set daily, weekly and monthly goals and timelines and honestly follow them. Manage time in a manner that you get enough time to study new concepts, revise them regularly and attempt MCQs and Mock test papers as much as possible.

Neglecting a topic

Aspirants overestimate themselves and do not prepare certain subjects and/or topics from the syllabus. Rajasthan Judiciary Prelims syllabus is exhaustive and it is easy for you to prepare the entire syllabus effectively, thus, leaving something is not a good idea.

Aspirants generally under-estimate language segment of the syllabus and do not prepare it properly, thinking that they will be able to do it and no preparation is required. However, they are heavily mistaken herein because you cannot qualify this exam without preparing the Language segment effectively.

Following unlimited resources

Lack of proper guidance leads aspirants in following several resources and materials for preparing for this exam. Instead, make Bare Acts your Bible and refer to only 1 reference book for every subject and keep following it.

Choose a reference book that you are able to understand without any difficulty and keep stick to Bare Act and that particular reference book for one subject. Always remember to “keep your resources limited and revisions unlimited”.

Not practising previous year question papers

Candidates under-estimate the power of previous year question papers as they think that the questions will not be repeated, so there is no point in solving them. Instead, the reality is that solving these papers aids you:-

  • In testing your current level of knowledge;
  • In getting familiarise with the exam pattern;
  • In getting to know which topic is more important.

Thus, before starting your preparations, attempt question papers of the years 2017, 2019 and 2021 with utmost honesty and accuracy and analyse them properly.

Not giving enough time to solve MCQs and mock test papers

Not solving enough MCQs and Mock test papers will lead you nowhere. In your study plan, give enough time for solving MCQs, sectional mock tests and full mock test papers as much as possible. All your preparations will become futile if you skip to solve MCQs and Mock test papers.

Not enough revision

Aspirants generally keep on studying new things and do not revise it at regular intervals. Human mind attains only that information which is fed regularly, otherwise, the brain does not retain anything. Thus, you need to revise at regular intervals so that the mind feeds that knowledge and transfers into your subconscious arena. In a week, keep at least 1 day for revising everything you studied in the last 6 days and keep moving in this manner. Always remember to “keep your resources limited and revisions unlimited”.

Not maintaining a healthy body

While preparing for this exam, aspirants avoid all the physical activities as they think that it will merely waste time. I understand that the syllabus is so wide that no time is sufficient for preparing it, however, no physical activity will make you dull, irritated, non- energetic and stressed. Since “a healthy mind resides in a healthy body”, it is extremely important to be physically active.

Dedicate at least 1 hour to perform any physical activity and meditation everyday. Also, eat a healthy and balanced diet and avoid consuming too much junk food. This will reduce stress and anxiety and keep you energetic, focussed and happy throughout your preparation journey because “all work and no play will make you a dull aspirant”. Also, remember to take breaks at regular intervals to avoid burnout. Taking breaks will refresh you and you will be more focussed thereafter.
